Q: Can't I just buy a cheap VagTacho cable from eBay?Ī: Most (all?) of the copies of VagTacho and similar tools on eBay are cracked copies of much more expensive commercial products. You'll also need it if you ever need to install a replacement cluster or ECU. You can also use older VCDS cables if they support VCP mode.Ī: You'll need it if you want to match a new key to your car. Drivers for that cable can be found here. For VWs, this means only MKIV cars are supported.Ī: The latest version should always be here: (look under Assets) A list of commands is here: Ī: You need a KKL cable like this one. But it's a command line program and only works with cars that support diagnostics via the K-Line. It's open source so you can copy it, modify it or just read through the source code to understand how it works. It runs on Windows 10/11, macOS and Linux. To save you some time, I'll include some basic info here before the historical stuff starts.Ī: It's a program I wrote in 2020 to help TDI VW VAG owners retrieve their vehicle's SKC and program their CCMs using a generic KKL cable that you can probably pick up for $20 or so. While reading through the 1000+ posts might be interesting, it's not going to get you your SKC or mod your CCM very quickly. ![]() When I started this thread, I didn't realize that it would grow so large.
